IHT Wire

Description

Induction-hardened and tempered wire is a type of steel wire that has undergone a specialized heat treatment process known as induction hardening and tempering. Induction hardening is a heat treatment process where a localized area of a metal component, in this case, the wire, is rapidly heated using high-frequency alternating current (induction heating). Once the desired temperature is reached, the heated portion is quenched by cooling it rapidly, typically using a water-based quenching medium. This process results in the formation of a hardened surface layer on the wire, increasing its wear resistance and hardness.

After induction hardening, the wire is often tempered to improve its toughness and reduce the risk of brittleness. Tempering involves reheating the hardened wire to a lower temperature and holding it there for a specified period before allowing it to cool naturally. This process helps to relieve internal stresses and refine the microstructure of the wire, enhancing its toughness while maintaining sufficient hardness.

Tata Wiron Induction Hardened and Tempered Wire (IHT)

Tata Wiron IHT wires are primarily used for mono-suspension springs in 2 and 3 wheelers. Now accepted in 4-wheeler suspension springs as well.

Relatively higher tensile strength Hardness and ductility which provide better fatigue properties

Tata Wiron Induction hardened and tempered (IHT) spring steel wires are high strength wire supplied in hardened and tempered condition, with a fine tempered-martensitic structure.

Standard size Range- 7.00mm-14.00mm

Induction-hardened and tempered wire is commonly used in various industrial applications where wear resistance, strength, and durability are required. Some common applications include:

  1. Automotive components: Springs, valve springs, suspension components, and seatbelt springs.
  2. Construction: Reinforcement bars, fasteners, and wire ropes.
  3. Machinery: Bearing races, gears, shafts, and cutting tools.
  4. Agricultural equipment: Tines, blades, and cultivator points.
  5. Aerospace: Aircraft landing gear components and engine parts.
  6. Power transmission: Springs and wire forms used in electrical contacts and connectors.

Overall, induction-hardened and tempered wire offers excellent mechanical properties, making it suitable for demanding applications across various industries.
